由于一场事故，从1997年起牛津暂时地丧失了他部分的记忆。由于记忆和能力是交织的，牛津同时失去了很多能力，这意味着他从1997年起变成了另外一个人，一个比原来的牛津智能低很多的人。

经过那场事故，牛津感到一切和之前相比似乎都有一点异常和陌生，可悲的是这些被家庭及周围的人完全忽略了(人们认为这是牛津的个性或青春期的改变)，且当时心理医生很少(一个心理医生可以轻松发现牛津在1997年发生了巨大的事情，而这事情是神经的而非心理的)。牛津也悲剧地开始让自己相信这些都是正常的，从此开始了一场比健康人难很多的20年的旅途。

在这20年中，牛津一次又一次地战斗，事情随着他对大脑的透支变得越来越难，最终在2016年年底起他终于做不了任何事情，甚至连日常活动中简单的那部分也不行(那些是他过去20年不需要付出巨大努力就能做到的)。在2017年早期牛津在深深的地狱中，没有任何明确迹象表明事情会变好或表明多久会好。万幸的是2017年夏天事情变得清晰，在2017年冬天之后事情变得好多了，从那以后牛津可以在没有他人巨大帮助的情况下做很多日常活动。

现在牛津的大部分记忆和能力已经恢复，且仍然在恢复，这是个自然和不可逆的过程(牛津在吃一些辅助性的药物)。牛津的疾病被越来越多的人知晓，牛津也得到了比之前更多的支持。

牛津不确定这个恢复过程持续多久。作为一个这些年被这么多人爱和祝福的人，牛津想在这里记录他的发现和对这个世界的看法。
